Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer in women. However, with early detection, the chances of recovery are very high. Breast self-examination (BSE) is the first step every woman can take.
How to Perform BSE
- Perform examination 7-10 days after menstruation ends
- Stand in front of a mirror and observe changes in breast shape or size
- Raise both arms and notice any changes
- Palpate breasts with circular motions using three middle fingers
- Check the armpit area for lumps
Warning Signs
- Lump or thickening in breast or armpit
- Changes in breast shape or size
- Dimpling or puckering of breast skin
- Nipple discharge (especially bloody)
- Unusual pain or discomfort
